The General Office of the State Council issued a notice that the supermarkets will be forbade to provide free plastic bags for customers from 1 June 2008.
From 1 June 2008, all supermarkets and department stores will carry out the system of none-free plastic bags and should not all and singular provide free plastic bags for customers.
The new rule aims to reduce the use of plastic bags and the notice on the central government Website urges people to use cloth bags, baskets and reusable carriers.
Research for supermarkets: The bags will be charged as soon as we receive the notice
“This is good news for us.” a salesman in one big supermarket said, “the cost of the plastic bags that are free for the customer is about two thousand yuan. If the bags are charged, then this cost will be saved.”
Many supermarkets and stores said that the sale price of the plastic bags will not be much higher than the original purchase price.
The consumer said it’s inconvenient but good for environmental protection
Some consumers said they will take carriers with themselves instead of buying plastic bags in the supermarket even at a low price and some said that although it’s inconvenient but benefit for the environment.
But there are also some consumers who worried that it would be troublesome for their random visit to supermarkets.
