Qiaodong district is located at the center of Shijiazhuang and it is the gathering location of personnel, materials, capital and information and the important hinge of goods of southern of China. It has the total area of 43.07 square km and the population of 329000, 1 town, 9 street offices. It has long distance from south to north like a beautiful belt with the flourishing center. Business and services are its center and industries, agricultures and residential areas are located at the southern and northern respectively.     The groundwork of commercial trade is very solid. Zhongshan Eastern Road belonging to the district is the center of commodity trade, which is honored "Wangfujing" of the provincial capital. It successively renamed "the national street where there are no fake commodities" by the central Ministry of Publicity. In the district there are many big scale commercial buildings: Beiguo Commercial Plaza, Ximei General Merchandise Building and more than ten hotels of above three-star. About ten finance organizations: Industrial and Commercial Bank, Construction Bank, Business Bank and Huaxia Bank, and nearly 100 financial service net spot were located there. Especially Nansantiao Wholesale Market of Small Commodity was located there. In 2001 the bargaining amount is 168 hundred million Yuan. It was assessed "the national ten big wholesale markets" for two times and in 1999 was listed "the national five strongest markets of small commodity". At the same time, 20 special markets: Dongfeng Western Road Business Center, Huaizhong Western Road Decoration Material Market, Northern Auto Appurtenance, and so on, were spread all over the district. It had formed the commercial development pattern which was led by Nansantiao Wholesale Market, connected by No.107 National Highway, winged by the wholesale market of good fruit and vegetable and northern auto commercial building, complemented by two two-grade business center of Pingnan and Tianhe.

    The market prospect is extensive. In 1998 the district committee and government carried out the synthetic planning and development rebuilding to Nansantiao Wholesale Market and it planned to spend five years and invested 18 hundred million Yuan on upgrade the market. At present, eight commercial group and 21 commercial building had put into operation, 11 projects: Taihe Daily Chemical Building, Jinzheng Foodstuff Building, had put into production. So the modern commercial area was gradually formed. Until the end of 2002 Nansantiao Wholesale Market which was upgraded would become the biggest commercial base of small commodity in north of china, its operation area would be 80 ten thousand square meter, the amount of operation businessmen would be nearly two ten thousand, there would be three ten thousand commodity varieties, the annual bargain amount would be 300 hundred million Yuan, the tax income would be 2.5 hundred million Yuan.

    The foundation of industry was strong. The industry strength of the whole district was strong, which was focus on electromechnical, auto, pharmaceutical, glass and chemical industry. In the recent years it successively developed seven big leading enterprises: Sanhuan Metallurgy Equipment, Shuanghuan Auto, Huarong Pharmaceutical Factory, Zhongxing Pharmaceutical Factory, General Glass, Aerda Sunlight Board and Wanrong Toy Factory. It preliminarily formed the pharmaceutical area that was centered by Taoyuan Pharmaceutical Industry and Rongchang Synthetic Industrial Area that was centered by Liuxinzhuang Auto Manufacture, General Glass, Aerda Sunlight Board, and Children Toy Factory. At the same time, in the district there were more than 50 big industrial enterprises: Water Pump Group, Power Mechanism Factory, Guangming Daily Chemical Factory and No.7420 Arm-shop. It had formed the pattern that stated-owned big enterprise and the district industry developed together.

    The potential of characteristic agriculture was huge. The resource of fruit bearing forest is abundant and varieties were good. The benefit of Huangguan Pear, Shuijing Pear, grape and high-quality strawberry was prominent. So it had initially formed demonstration base of fruit bearing forest. The development space of tourism and agriculture was huge. There was 3000 mu garden of pear. It successively held "the pear flower festival" for three years whose title was "view flowers and lie fallow". The economic and social benefit of it was marketable. It had become the important brand of the ecologic tourism agriculture. At present, the characteristic tourism agriculture had already present vital force.

    The individual private economy and community economy developed fast. The private economy was prominent, the development environment was more optimized, the development field was more enlarged and the development quality was more enhanced. Until the end of 2001 the individual industrial and commercial businessmen amounted to nearly 21,800 and the amount of private enterprises was 595. The tax amount of the individual private economy accounted for 47.2% of the financial income of the whole district. The community economy changed from quantity model to quality model and from simple industrial and commercial economy to tax resource economy and gradually enlarged the gross. In 2001 the total income of street office amounted to 2,425 ten thousand Yuan and the financial tax income amounted to RMB￥1,543 ten thousand Yuan.

    The social cause vigorously developed. The district environment was more perfected and the layout is reasonable. 80% of the resident area had reached the city-grade civilization community standard. In the district the polity and society was stable. The science and education cause developed fast. It set up the relation with 10 junior colleges or universities of Beijing, Tianjing. The share of economic growth contributed by the scientific and technical advance amounted to 40.2%. It successively held the honored title "the national scientific and technical advanced area" for three years. The enrollment rate of the right age children amounted to 100%. Five middle schools carried out the cooperative work with nine junior colleges or universities. Some characteristic professional education developed toward industrialization and set up the cooperative relation with Australia and Japan.
