Anyang tourist attractions

Hongqi Canal:

According to Zhou Enlai, “There are two big miracles in New China. One is Nanjing Yangtse River Bridge. The other is Linxian Hongqi Canal.”

Linxian County used to be a poor, dry, mountainous area of Anyang. Because of the region’s lack of water, several water conservancy projects have been created here since 1957 to solve the irrigation problem. Starting in February of 1960, the county committee and county people’s committee led several thousand laborers through 10 years of hard work to build an irrigation system which has developed into today’s Hongqi Canal. The canal, which channels water from the Cuozhang River, is 70.6 kilometers in length and can effectively irrigate up to 540,000 mu. The excavation was done through the side of Taihang Mountain. Because the excavation work was so arduous and dangerous, Hongqi Canal represents the pioneering spirit of independence, teamwork, and selfless dedication. In this regard, the project has been recognized and highly praised by party and state leaders. In 1996, Hongqi Canal was designated as one of the hundred patriotism education bases in China.

Yin Ruins:

The Yin ruins are located in the northwest outskirts of Anyang. The area served as the capital during the late Shang Dynasty, where it was a center of politics, economics, military affairs, and culture. After the Shang Dynasty fell, the capital collapsed, too. Today, the Yin ruins serve as the first ancient capital site with a history of 3,300 years, which can be proved by literature, oracle bone inscriptions, and archaeological excavation.

The Yin ruins are large in size and vast in scope. Many historic relics like palaces, ancestral temples, royal tombs, family graveyards, and jade and bone workshops can be found within its 36 kilometer area.

The birthplace of hero Yue Fei Anyang is also the birthplace of famous patriotic hero Yue Fei.
